“On our second day at Santiago de Compostela, we woke up at 5am to take a train ride to Vigo. It was a beautiful, cloudless day and we were all anticipating the long, relaxing day at the beach that awaited us in the Cies islands. After an hour and a half train trip we were at 9 am on the first boat arriving on the island. We started out on a hike to a beautiful look out spot about a mile away. The top of the hill looked out over the tip of the island and we could see the ocean waves lapping at the shore of the island. It was picture perfect and we couldn’t resist climbing up the rocks to the edge of the cliff to take pictures of our group, literally on the edge of the world. Later, we headed back along the path and headed out to a beach that had the whitest sand I had ever seen. We had a quick lunch break on the seashore and proceeded to spend hours on the beach, swimming and just chilling on the rocks. We all enjoyed the break from walking, before we had to head back to the boat. Half of the group was so relaxed on the beach that they didn’t want to leave. We all enjoyed this excursion and I was grateful to be able to see and feel the Atlantic ocean for the first time. I realized how much I actually missed the beach back home, so I was happy that I was able to visit the beach once again. Overall, the plan for the day was entertaining, and I’m glad we were able to see such a gorgeous place at the best time of the year.”
