“Four days ago we arrived in La Coruña, the capital of Galicia. This city is much larger than Santiago de Compostela or Salamanca and has much more of an urban and industrial feel to it. However, it maintains an old-fashioned European charm and in fact, we are staying in a residencia right in the middle of the Ciudad Vieja (old town). The last few days have been busy with visits to the Science Museum and the city Aquarium. On Friday, we all participated in a scavenger hunt to familiarize ourselves with the city. It lasted the entire morning. In teams of 5 we embarked on an adventure to take pictures and gather information about various locations such as, local markets, bookstores, and even the restaurant we visited the night before. We practiced our mapping skills to find our way around and asked locals for information. And by the end of the trip I felt very accomplished for having navigated through the streets and utilizing my Spanish effectively. The Grand Prize for the scavenger hunt was 5 tickets to the opening of Madagascar in 3D where we all went yesterday afternoon. On our last full day here, we went for a hike to Monte San Pedro (the highest point in the city) where we enjoyed an amazing panorama and took lots of pictures. For lunch, we were invited to the most un-spanish meal of the whole month: an amazing Chinese restaurant with an all you can eat buffet! The food was great and it prepared us for an afternoon of relaxation at the beach before coming back to the residencia. Alas, it is time to pack as we leave tomorrow afternoon for Madrid: we are slowly making our way home… Already?”
