After a 6 hour bus ride, we have arrived in a completely different region of Spain. With a Celtic heritage, green hills, and home to one of the most celebrated Pilgrimages of the Christian world. Santiago de Compostela is the final destination of over 125,000 pilgrims who each year walk the “Camino” (the Way). Pilgrims of all ages with their backpacks can be seen all over the city that we visited on our first morning. We took time to appreciate the cathedral, an amazing masterpiece incorporating 3 different styles of ancient architecture: Romanesque, Gothic and Rococo. We also visited the historical downtown: a maze of streets perfectly preserved, where a unique folk festival has been taking place for two consecutive days. We have seen centuries old traditions and costumes during a memorable sunny afternoon that we ended with the sampling of tasty local food in the evening.
