FOR SPAIN

Magellan Study Abroad is a partner and sponsor of the “Escribo en Español” literary contest which is organized by the California Department of Education and the Education services of the Spanish Embassy in the US - consular offices of San Francisco and Los Angeles. We are proud to be the only non-Spanish sponsor of this prestigious contest; our sponsorship clearly recognizing the efforts of Magellan Study Abroad in promoting quality educational immersion programs in Spain and elsewhere!

The contest is open to students enrolled in high school Spanish courses and elementary or middle school students in Dual Lingual Immersion or Bilingual Programs. The purpose of this contest is to encourage students to improve their Spanish writing skills and to acknowledge their capacity to express themselves in Spanish.

The topic for the 2010-2011 school year contest is Which three objects symbolize your cultural roots and why?

The grand prizes for the best 3 writers of each category consist of scholarships for attending a summer course in Spain. Magellan Study Abroad is offering the winner the grand prize of a month-long immersion program in Salamanca-La Coruña summer program, but also the roundtrip flight to Spain!

The deadline for entering the contest is January 17, 2011.
For more details please contact:

The students must focus on the topic and write an essay or a poem in Spanish about their ideas and experiences. The essay or poem must be original, expressive, clear and grammatically correct. Entries must be submitted by a public school teacher; teachers can submit a maximum of 10 essays per class. They can provide orientation but must not direct or correct a students’ work.

Teachers of the 28 finalists will be notified by March 17, 2011 by the Education Office of the Embassy of Spain. The awards ceremony will take place at the end of April in California. School principals are encouraged to attend the ceremony with the teachers and students. Students and teachers and schools represented by the 28 best entries will receive a Certificate of Recognition from the Education Attaché of the Spanish Consulate General of Spain and the California State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

FOR ALL OTHER LOCATIONS

At Magellan Study Abroad we are happy to encourage the dreams and aspirations of students who want to make a difference, learn a language, and embrace a new culture. We know that in the process they learn more about themselves and the world they are growing up in. Students gain more self-confidence and independence during the crucial pre-college years and we like to help out those students in need of a little push in order to make their dream possible.

Magellan Study Abroad has increased by 100% the scholarship fund in the last year only to keep the dream of international travel and culture exchange alive and to help as many motivated students as possible. Make sure to check with us about what funds are available and what the requirements are.  An advisor will be in touch with you. Write to us at scholarships@magellanstudyabroad.com
