Over the years, Magellan Study Abroad has organized winter and spring break educational travels for elementary, middle and high school teachers and their students. Teachers who have organized customized winter or spring break educational trips with us agree that travelling to places you teach about adds complete credibility when lecturing students.

We take the same care in making short experiences as fruitful and outstanding as the longer summer programs we offer. We stress that short trips can be as interesting and fulfilling as longer ones when well planned. To that effect, we underline the importance of communication between the teachers and ourselves. In addition, we can affirm that unlike other companies, ALL our groups are entirely private: you will not end up travelling with teachers and students from other schools – this is YOUR trip.

Don’t be fooled by the “custom” trips that are out there: you decide where and how you travel (country, visits, activities, accommodation, regional travel). Furthermore, our quotes always include travel, medical, accident and cancellation insurance from Seven Corners.

Below are the steps which will guide you in making your trip come true!

First, pick your country and theme (types of visits and activites you would like your students to participate in)! Ideas for the trip are then thrown back and forth between the teacher participants and ourselves in order to make the best itinerary possible in the most efficient way; and most importantly, to create a trip adapted to your school, needs and budget. Note that several teachers first mention the idea of a trip to their class to get ideas directly from their students beforehand.

Second, get your trip approved! Every school has a protocol set in place to follow when travelling with students. Teachers first come to us with ideas about their trip: the destination, excursions, key places to visit and activities that would benefit their students (we are in close contact with several artists and can offer you various activities including art workshops). One of the most important step, however, is to fill in the paperwork for the trip to be authorized by the activity director, principal and board before it can be properly advertized to your students.

Third, it’s all about the buzz! Once it’s approved, promote your trip: get your students to sign up and talk to colleagues whose students could also benefit from such a trip. For example, a trip to Spain, Italy or France could be great for history, language and arts teachers! But that’s not it: get the parents to really get to know all the details about the trip! Inform them with a flyer or an email. With your help, we organize parents’ meetings to further promote the trip and reassure parents with regards to safety. We will hand out tailormade flyers for your trip and all the necessary documentation. Here is an exmple of the type of flyer you will be handed out:

This is it! Everyone is now counting the days! We will arrange for a pre-departure orientation meeting with all the participants, their parents, and the teachers involved. We also try to assign to this event and the parents’ meeting the same staff that will be travelling with you, thus creating a bond between yourself and your Program Director before the group embarks on a wonderful journey created just for you!

Teachers’ tip: indulge in some cultural activity linked to the trip prior departure! Consider cooking an Italian meal all together before flying off to Italy, for example!

All our teacher participants and their students return highly satisfied from their trip. Whereas teachers gain added credibility with regards to their subject matter, students become more focused in class as they have seen or experienced first-hand what they learn at school during they sojourn. Sample Itineraires

Short educational trips are customized and personally handcrafted by Magellan Study Abroad for yourself and your school. Below you will find a few of the trips that we created for teachers like yourself. These are only suggestions; of course, we have and can organize other programs in other locations. Please note that safety and is security is of utmost importance to us and we will therefore not travel to certain parts of the world.

For your convenience, we have chosen to list a few examples of past trips according to some of the subjects which are taught in class. Nevertheless, a trip to France for example, is a fabulous opportunity not only for French language teachers and their students but also for world history and art teachers.

Barcelona, Andalucia and Madrid (9 or 12 days)

As we continue our sejourn through Andalucia, walk through Sevilla’s cobled streets as you tour the Barrio de Santa Cruz, the Alcázar Palace and Granada’s Alhambra Palace. End your journey in Madrid with key visits including the Royal Palace and the Prado and Reina Sofia museums.
