ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Begin and end your adventures with sightseeing and activities in Madrid, your gateway city, and the capital of Spain. Tour the Royal Palace and the ever popular Prado and Reina Sofia museums before departing for your new home in Granada. Your homestay family will welcome you to four incredible weeks of language and cultural immersion. Except for group meals, you will dine with your family and learn how a real Spanish family lives.

Spanish classes will be held in a one-of-a-kind 17th Century building in the most historic neighborhood in Granada: the Albaicín, a fascinating labyrinth of narrow cobble stone streets and whitewashed houses with secluded inner gardens. The Albaicín is a favorite place for students to laze about and grab a bite to eat, and at nearly every turn is a magnificent view of the spectacular centuries-old palace of the Alhambra, one of the most stunning examples of Moorish architecture. You will explore this compound of palaces, gardens and fountains and with the expert guidance of our onsite staff, discover all the other hidden treasures of this “hot spot among cultural and tourist cities in Spain.” Day excursions to nearby jewels of Southern Spain, museums, workshops, and sites with artistic and historical themes round out an unforgettable four weeks in this amazing city, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage City.

ABOUT THE DESTINATIONS

Barcelona (pop 2 million) is one of the oldest cities in Europe, but yet one of the most progressive cities in Spain. Located on the coast of the Mediterranean, this port city has always been a major center of trade since the Greek times. The city is full of beautiful parks and fascinating architecture. Barcelona is probably most famous for its architecture, which ranges from medieval to downright surreal, thanks to the parks, buildings and the unforgettable Catedral de la Sagrada Familia, all left by Catalonian architect Antoni Gaudí. From the Barri Gòtic to the Eixample to Gaudi’s wonderland of Parc Güell, you can find every type of architecture imaginable. Barcelona is a multifaceted metropolis separated into four very different districts: Ciutat Vella, El Barri Gotic, La Ribera and El Raval. Barcelona has a long history as a port city; the Port Vell area -or Old Port as it is often referred to- is a great place to relax amidst the restaurants, shopping mall and aquarium.
